An agitated Stephen Strasburg settled down in a hurry after a rocky start and the Washington Nationals became the first visiting team to win at Citi Field this season, beating the New York Mets 8-2 on Thursday night. The Mets had opened 10-0 at home for a team record-tying 12-game streak over two seasons. Washington took advantage of yet another error by shaky shortstop Wilmer Flores to rally for its third straight win, matching its longest streak this year. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are counting on Jameis Winston to help them become relevant again. The Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback was selected with the first overall pick in the NFL draft on Thursday night, instantly becoming the face of a franchise that missed the playoffs the past seven seasons and hasn't won a postseason game since the club's Super Bowl run in 2002. Coach Lovie Smith and Jason Licht made the call, concluding after months of interviews and exhaustive research that Winston not only can be the answer to team's offensive woes, but that the 21-year-old has learned from off-the-field mistakes that threatened to undermine his stock in the draft. In selecting Winston, the 2013 Heisman winner who was accused - but never arrested or charged - of sexually assaulting a college student at Florida State, the Bucs passed on 2014 Heisman winner Marcus Mariota.

The Tennessee Titans have selected Oregon's Marcus Mariota with the No. 2 draft pick overall, hoping their third try at landing a franchise quarterback in the past decade is the charm. The Titans selected the Heisman Trophy winner Thursday night after starting three quarterbacks last season with Jake Locker benched in October for rookie Zach Mettenberger. Mariota could start the season opener Sept. 13 at Tampa Bay against the top pick, Jameis Winston.
